Good morning Rehoboth,
I am going to try something new that I am calling “Monday Morning Ramblings.” What I am going to do is give some brief thoughts on this week’s scripture readings that I will be preaching on the following Sunday. The reason I am doing this is two-fold. The first is selfish; I want to force myself to start my sermon prep earlier in the week. The second, maybe still selfish, is that I believe the sermon should be the work of the people. Meaning the sermon on Sunday should be constructed from you all. It needs to matter to you all. So how am I going to accomplish these two tasks? Well, “Monday Morning Ramblings” will be my initial encounter with this week’s text. Maybe that’s an interesting story that comes to mind or more than likely it will be a bunch of questions that I need to wrestle with during the week in preparation for Sunday. Whatever it is, it will be my first thoughts on our scripture. But here is what I need from you all. I need you to talk back to me. I want to know what your thoughts are. How does this passage resonate with you? What questions do you have about the text? What connections to our world do you see? There will be a link at the bottom that sends an anonymous message right to me so that I can better craft my sermons. Or give me a call and we can chat. Now I know what you are thinking, I am getting you to do my work for me. And the answer to that is yes, yes I am. Because the work of the sermon is the work of the people.
Starting next week, I will begin posting these ramblings of mine. They will be short, but I hope that you will join me in the sermon writing process. I hope and pray that you will consider sending me your thoughts so that we can together search the depths of God’s scripture.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Lee
